Boonk Gang, whose real name is John Robert Hill Jr., became famous through outrageous social-media videos involving theft, drugs, violence and dangerous behavior. Although the character brought him millions of views, he later revealed that fame never gave him peace. Behind the viral videos, he was struggling with addiction, anger, childhood trauma and repeated legal trouble. His transformation began while he was incarcerated, when a fellow prisoner shared the Gospel and the love of Jesus Christ with him. Hill says he experienced the presence of the Holy Spirit, repented of his former lifestyle and was later baptized as a public declaration of his faith.
Now known as Holy Gabbana, he has not completely abandoned rap but has redirected his music toward Christ. He creates Christian hip-hop, shares his testimony in churches and prisons, and speaks about repentance, sobriety and deliverance. His story is explored in the documentary I Am Holy Gabbana, which shows how internet fame contributed to his destruction and how his relationship with Jesus gave him a new identity and purpose. His transformation reflects 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV): “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature.”
